Hi, my name is N (well, obviously it’s not, but anonymity is wise sometimes…) and you’ve found you way across to my blog.

I’m a 28 year old single female social work student (a career change) who feels that God has called me to open my arms and my heart (and my house…) to a foster child or children. I’m a passionate follower of God, a believer in Jesus Christ, an aunty, a sister, a friend. I’m fiercely independent, a bit stubborn, sometimes obstinate, occasionally obsessive. I love to be read, craft, spend time with my dog, muddle along on my guitar and be useful to others, all things that I suspect will be are rare occurrences once this journey truly begins when you are busy loving kids!

There is not a lot of information out there on the day to day life of being a foster carer in an Australian context (although there are some great blogs based in other countries, particularly America). So I’ve decided to write this blog about my journey, starting right now, at the very very beginning. The aim is to demystify foster care and to encourage others to consider starting their own foster journey.

So far I have welcomed, loved and said goodbye to two beautiful brothers. Champ (3) and Buddy (2). I’m currently navigating post restoration contact and learning how to loving their whole family, including Big Sis (7) who is now living with me until she too can return to Nan.

  1. Hello! I’m touching base with you as one of the very few other Australian foster Carer bloggers. Really pleased to find yours – funnily enough through fosterwee. Looking forward to reAding more of your adventures. I blog about life in general, about autism and about foster caring. I have 3 boys ( unrelated) 5, 2 & 1. Love it, love them and the blogging has kept me relatively sane. Amazing!

  2. Hello N — I’m writing a story for a newspaper about foster blogs and I’d love to interview you. Shoot me an email or give me a call 801-237-2163 if you’d be interested!

  3. Not sure where to post this, but I recently compiled a list of single foster and adoption blogs on my website, Attempting Agape. From the comments, I realized that we needed to do more to connect people who’ve decided to jump into the deep end of fostering and adopting without a partner. This (http://bit.ly/116zRxt) is my attempt to do that. So, my hope for this blog is to be so much more than a blog, I want it to become a large support network for single Mamma’s and Daddies all over the place. Please check it out and let me know if you’d like to be involved.

Comment! You know you want to!
